The death of the internet?

Filed under: Travis' thoughts — Travis at 2:32 pm on Wednesday, May 17, 2006

This is something that I've been following for a while with regular posts on gE, but I figured I'd also post something here, because I just don't think enough people are aware of what's going on. What it boils down to is the major ISP's banding together to start charging web sites for bandwidth. In other words, the next time you do a Google or Amazon search, watch a YouTube video, etc, unless those companies have paid a "fee" to your ISP, your page-load times will be slower. Sound like bullshit? That's because it is.

The scariest part of it all is that Congress is allowing it to happen. Check out this video. Sums it up nicely. More info on gE if you're looking for it. Just type "net neutrality" into any search engine, for that matter.
